1-4victor-acknowledges-all: So I’m just gonna say this now and pardon the shouting. IF I GO HOME AND ANY TIME IN THE NEXT 6 MONTHS MY POWER GOES OUT IM GOING TO DRIVE TO THE UTILITY COMPANY AND PUNCH SOMEONE IN THE FACE. I’m tired of generators. I’m tired of them shutting off the… Love it.

The best sound in the world right now?
Is the lush of my life snoring softly beside me. Now I know I’m really home :) (I would love to wake him up for company, but he sleeps so badly when I’m away he has to catch up on months of sleep too… )

So nice to be home!
But boy, is my sleeping totally rubbish or what?!? I had four hours the night I got home, 45 minutes last night, and so far 3 hours tonight. I hope it goes away soon, I’ve not had anything remotely like this before, and I’m not having fun… I have THINGS TO DO damnit brain! Cut this crap out right now!!

Shoes
notjuststrongforagirl replied to your post: Trail running- shoes? Nope. Don’t get them unless you really intend to do more tail runs. I did a 12km tail run with regular joggers and was fine. :-) I think I’ll stick with the road shoes, for now at least. Maybe if I get into trails I will upgrade, but who knows? Tail running sounds like fun though :) madhatterer answered your question:...

Trail running- shoes?
The 10k trail run is only a few weeks away, and they’re talking about trail shoes. I’m not planning on making a habit of trail running (at this stage), so do I *really* need new shoes? I’m likely to be pretty careful with my footing anyway - 1)I’m a wuss, and 2)I can’t afford to hurt myself at this age! Added to the fact I’m not fast anyway… What do you...

Other random thoughts for the day...
I have 95 hours left. I hope. The weather today was AWESOME! I get to sleep in tomorrow for Mother’s Day. Pity I don’t get to spend it with my daughter. Again. SHALLOW ALERT!! I get my medals tomorrow. Sorry. They’re so shiny and sparkly. (You thought it was just for the glory didn’t you? HA!) I’m going to a water park on Monday. I’m getting in the...

Allie Brosh could have all the hugs- if they made... →
Allie writes her blog, Hyperbole and a half, over at blogspot. She’s actually spent the past year trying to remember why she is still on this planet- and while I’m not in a position to know if she found that reason, I’m taking her writing again as a good sign. Her latest piece is on her battle with depression, which is the name seemingly applied to every mental state that is...

Argh!
I am busting a gut to get home… But there’s still things to be done, medals to be handed out, paperwork (always ALWAYS paperwork) to be completed. Shouldn’t complain, at least the weather is nice. It’s the warmest I’ve been since Jan 2012 :) Four.Days.Left. No more Thursdays, no more Fridays. It’s so close, yet so far…

mar-kicksass replied to your post: You know you’re lame when… Vastus medialis oblique? Yes, that’s the one. I’d never heard of it before. I had heard of the IT band, which everyone else seems to have trouble with, and I thought I was just lucky, but it turns out my IT band is very strong, and my VMO is weak. - so the uneven tension is allowing the knee cap to move....

You know you're lame when...
The Doctor tells you that you may not need an arthroscopy, and that there are exercises you can do to strengthen a muscle you’ve never heard of (VMO- look that puppy up if you haven’t before!) to reduce the kneecap movement - and it’s the best news you’ve heard in a year. Lame, or working for too long? Meh. Anyhow, my IT band is too tight, and the VMO weak, so we need...

A big fat thanks to all you guys,
For the support and sanity and well wishes for my trip home. It was very much appreciated while I was away, and it is now while I’m in limbo for a week. (They have to make sure we’re not psychotic before we get home. Well, they try and make sure we’re not… I’m not psychotic, just plain crazy :)

Well, my time here is almost up.
And to be honest, I will miss the place. It reminds me a lot of where I loved in china (just over the hills thataway!), and I like the desert. I’ll naturally miss someone cooking, doing my laundry, and the fact I don’t have to think about what to wear everyday, but it’s time to head home. Since Jan 2012 I will have spend around two, maybe two and a half months living in my own...

I tried HIIT sprints on the dreadmill this...
It was quite funny. My recovery time was the pace I used yesterday for my 30 min waddle (5mph 8kph), and my sprints went from 12.8kph to 13.6kph. I didn’t think I could run that fast on a tread mill, but the funniest thing was how I could feel my muscles reacting to the pace. My legs started off being tight, and ended up being quite loose- I believe I could’ve gone faster, but vanity...

What a day...
I’m pooped, and still glad for getting up at 0330, and glad I was here for ANZAC Day. But if I have to work without a proper gunfire breakfast next year - for the third year in a row - I’m going to write to my member of parliament!

ANZAC Day
It’s ANZAC Day once again - well, in Australia and New Zealand so far, it’s still the 24th here… For me its a day to spend with family and friends, a day to remember those friends and comrades who are no longer with us, and to remember and to be thankful to those who went before us. Heaven knows none of them wanted to be heros, and would never have thought of themselves as...

Sigh. What next?
I have just found that low salt intakes can increase insulin resistance. And insulin resistance means the fat sticks. So not only do I have to give up everything I really love to eat, I have to eat something I don’t even like. FML. Haven’t eaten the stuff for years. Never was a big fan, eat even less now I’m not eating processed anything. I guess bacon and olives count for...

How do you deal with frustration?
When people ask for help, and then sabotage themselves? How do you deal with the desire to shake some sense into them? And seriously, why should I even care? Is it the fact that they are not being even trying to be all that they could be? Or are my feelings hurt because I’m not saving someone from themselves? Is it my compassion? Or my vanity? And how to let go?

At the moment, I'm counting down the days...
I’ll be home next month! I can say that now, and I’m VERY excited!! Due to my lack of running I haven’t been posting a lot here, but I’m lurking. I’ve been listening to podcasts while I’m trying to get my daily move on, and reading online magazines while I’ve been stuck for things to do at work. I’m trying to absorb a lot of stuff, mostly about how...

Can't tell if sporty, or if just weird.. ?
I entered the City to Surf back in Darwin today (sporty). I’m planning on being home for it, and I’m looking forward to it (weird). I’m a bit worried because I didn’t run last year (sporty), but I run for the enjoyment (sporty) so I guess it doesn’t matter if I beat my last time or not (weird). In fact, I’m not even going to look up my time (weird) so that way I...

My random head.
Now that I’ve settled back into work again (read: never left), thoughts are turning to home - unfortunately too many days left to be ‘super excited’, but few enough that we’re in double digits :) Here’s some of the things I have in my head at the moment: Running. Running on tar or dirt, but not on loose rocks. Running for hours. Running for the pure enjoyment of...

The story thus far...
Loved Rome. Loved the ruins, the Cobblestone streets, the crazy driving (apart from the car sickness!). The hotel room was tiny but functional, and the cheerful staff were helpful and very very handy. The colosseum was fantastic to see in person- and I never thought that it would be! Would’ve liked to stay longer, but needs must and all… To Pisa by train. Uneventful trip with lots of...
